SPIRITUAL
PATH

Many
people use to ask me what their spiritual path is and what is their
spiritual dharma? Now this is confusing for many people. Every one
makes money in different ways. Of course it depends on one’s own
karma and prarabdra.
Spiritual
path has 3 phases -The search, the practise and the phase of love.
Many
people get attracted to spiritual path, spiritual guru and travel
to different places. This happens in different ways. For each one
the path is different and then they have to fix their sadhana path
and do the sadhana for a period of time. Then they finally help
people around them. Of course the sadhana does not stop. It just
expands in to different levels that is all. One has to become flexible,
use common people and common situation for spiritual growth.
What
are the different parameters by which one grows? Now this is a broad
sketch and I am giving the combination one knows.
Single
guru vs. multiple guru- some people have one guru
in their life time. They do not change. They grow, evolve and have
speeded growth due to the guru.
Multiple
guru - some people have many teachers and finally settle down with
a single teacher.
Single
path vs. multiple paths - I know one swamiji who
believes in the advaitha and a life long advaithian. There is nothing
wrong in it. Many westerners experiment with many paths and then
choose a particular path or make some unique practise which is ok,
like I know man who uses the meditation on loving kindness with
mantras. This is ok, as long as the person is growing in spiritual
life. People become Buddhist Zen monks and then move onto tantra
etc. they require combination to grow.
Worldly life and spiritual practise-
This varies for people to people. Even bhagawan ramana interacted
with people. Some can have 50% - 50%. They might work in office
and evening can do sadhana. Some people can have 20% interaction
with the world and 80% sadhana. Now this proportion varies for people
to people. There is no one way or a fixed way to do it.
Family
life vs. spiritual life -many people require family
model to grow in spiritual life. Most people cannot love one person
fully, then how they can love the whole world. There fore many people
are given personal life in combination with spiritual life. Now
this proportion can be 30 - 70% or 50% - 50% .
One
grows through conflicts and some people grow through easiness- I
know some people who have to fight inch by fight to grow in spiritual
life. For example the great milarepa grew due to attacks of spirits
and spiritual psychic warfare. Even the great guru padmasambhava
grew in the same and great manner like this. The great gnanasambhandar
had to fight the Jain monks. For some people their spiritual life
will be well defined, very early, very easy and the will be successful
in the path.
Truth or love- some
people need to practise truth. When they speak the truth, their
life will crash, crumble, shake and spiritual longings will open
up. Some people need love, silence and softness to grow in life.
Of course a man who is angry and fights with every one require this
kind of growth.
One place and multiple place-
bhagawan ramana stayed his whole life in thiruvanamalai and whereas
my teacher has travelled through out India. Some people require
travel. There is sect called prajavarha where people cannot stay
in one place more than 3 days.
Early bloomer and late bloomer
- they great appar tamil savite saints became a great spiritual
seeker after the age of 60 whereas the great gnana sambandar became
saint at a very young age. bhagawan ramana was a early bloomer in
the spiritual life.
the master seeks his disciples vs. disciples come in search of the
guru- now in case of ravi shankar or mata amritanada mayi they go
in search of the disciple, Whereas in shridi sai baba’s case people
came in search of him.
Outside
people vs. inside people- some people work for the world and help
the world to become better through preaching or showing miracles.
Some
people work for their family members. In my case great growth and
development happened because I tried to help my brother. Each one’s
spiritual opening will vary for people to people.
Field
of prayers and field of work- some pray in one place and they work
with different set of prayers. They cannot share their prayer with
other people. For example mother Theresa worked for poor but she
also prayed. Rarely did she teach prayers instead she gave food.
Some
people’s field of work and prayer is same. For example priest work
in temple and prays to the same deity.
Some
people require women in their path. This is called as left hand
path. Some people use the right hand path which keeps them celibate.
For
some money is needed and for some people money is not needed in
their sadhana. Some people have to give up money to become successful
in their sadhana.
Some
start with bhakthi and end up yogis. Some people start a bhakats
and ends up as yogis.
Ramakrishna
disciples are gnana yogi’s whereas he himself belonged to bhakthi
yoga.
One
can be spiritually great yet need not help people to evolve spiritually.
It is M.S.Subhalakshmi who was a great singer. But rarely did she
train people. Some people can have great methods, techniques and
feed back like master choa who was a master in the methods.
All one need to ask is whether the magic is happening. When you
see the path or sadhana or meet the guru great magic will happen.
Synchronicity and coincidences will happen. Problems will get solved
another. Levels of evolution will happen.
Secondly
churning will happen. Our concepts, notion and ideas will get shattered.
Both can happen and one needs to be open
Any
way I pray to god that many people may get clarification in their
mind with regard to the sadhana. I wrote this article so that many
people who have confusion will get clarified in their path.
